Inertants | Sulphur Hexafluoride

The special gas SF₆ is transparent, odourless, non toxic, non flammable (in standard conditions) and inert with insulation properties. It has high electric resistance and thermal stability, and is increasingly used in medium and high voltage electric systems for the excellent electric, thermal and chemical properties.

Applications

• Electrical and Electronic
  high and medium voltage cables, high voltage transformers and transducers, particle accelerators, radiographic machines, UHF transmission systems, both as gas for cleaning rooms and in the production of semiconductors. In low concentrations, it is also used as a detector of halogen leak
• Metal Working
  magnesium production, for cleaning associated with aluminium fusion, as protective gas to prevent ignition, oxydation and nitrite formation and to remove oxides and solid occlusions
• Pharmaceutical
  contrast agent in diagnostic ultrasound investigations, in the ophthalmic, pneumological and hearing aid sector and for disinfection of respiratory devices against aerobes
• Meteorology
  component for weather forecasts
